How to make transparent glowing text

To make a reusable glowing caption, type your text into the Megumi Text Generator, choose a glow color, and select Download transparent PNG. The saved file contains the caption and its glow, with no background. You can place it over a photo or use it as an image layer in a video editor.
This guide covers one concrete example and the difference between the two download buttons. The tool is free and requires no account.
Try this example
- Open the generator. Enter MAKE WORDS GLOW in Line 1. Leave Line 2 and Line 3 empty.
- Under Glow color, choose Neon cyan. Leave Auto-fit text selected.
- Select Text only above the preview. The checkerboard shows which part of the image is transparent; it is only a preview guide.
- Select Download transparent PNG. The file is named megumi-glow-text.png. Its size depends on your caption and glow, rather than the square or portrait canvas.
- Import the PNG as an image layer in your editor and place it over your photo or video. Keep PNG as the format when you need to preserve transparency.
You do not need to upload a background image for this export. Text only changes the preview; the transparent download button always exports the text alone, including when the Meme preview is selected.
Choose the right download
- Transparent PNG: just the caption and glow, cropped around the text. Use this when you want to reuse the caption over another image or video.
- Meme PNG: the caption plus the current background. Square output is 1080 × 1080 pixels; portrait output is 1080 × 1920 pixels. Use this when you want a finished still image.
A PNG placed in a video editor is still an image layer. This tool does not export a video, an animated GIF, or a moving glow.
Make a full image with your own background
Choose Square or Portrait, then add a local PNG, JPG or WebP image you have permission to use. The upload limit is 20 MB and 40 million pixels. The image fills the output shape, so its edges may be cropped. Drag the caption vertically in the Meme preview, or use the text position control, and select Download meme PNG.
Fix common problems
The download button is unavailable
Enter at least one non-empty caption line. The starting words are placeholders, and the starting preview is only an example. You can use one to three lines, up to 80 Unicode code points per line. Very long text becomes smaller with auto-fit; shorten the caption or split it across lines if it is hard to read.
The PNG looks like it has a white background
Some image viewers display transparent pixels on white. Place the file over a colored background in an editor to check it. Use the transparent PNG button; the meme PNG includes a background. Converting your transparent PNG to JPG will lose transparency.
I want the checkerboard in the saved image
The checkerboard is not exported. It marks transparency in the preview. To make a full image instead, add your own background and use the meme download.
My background was cropped
The image fills the selected square or portrait frame. Choose the shape closest to your original image, or crop the image to that ratio in your editor before adding it. The current generator does not provide a background crop-position control.
Colors, privacy and limits
The five glow colors are Electric blue, Violet, Hot pink, Neon cyan and Sunset orange. Captions and selected images are processed in your browser and are not uploaded. Closing the page loses the draft. Tool Cafe uses Google Analytics for page visits, referrers and export-ready events; it does not send your captions or selected image content. See our privacy page.
